Mad Dumplings
Created by college friends Fen Yi Chen and Edwin Lee, Mad Dumplings thrives on creating unique dumplings that also honor the tradition behind the preparation and serving of dumplings. Since 2016, the concept has grown from a single food truck to two food trucks and two brick-and-mortar restaurants serving Southern California.
They have received several awards for their creative offerings.
Best Food Truck in Southern California in 2018 from Food Network’s “The Big Food Truck Tip” hosted by Andrew Zimmerman.
Best Dumpling in San Gabriel Valley in 2018 from SGV’s Dumpling & Beer Festival
Summary
The story behind how Mad Dumplings and I came to work together is one that indeed shows how small the world is. After moving to California from New York, Fen was experimenting with dumpling flavors in his uncle’s kitchen. His uncle, Qi, happened to be friends with my husband. Fen needed taste testers, so Qi invited us over to try Fen’s creations. The tasting was around the same time that I left my full-time job to pursue marketing on my own. Fen needed help packaging his ideas into something the public would enjoy. After many dumplings and some chatting, Mad Dumplings became my first client. The rest is, well, you know how the saying goes.
Mad Dumplings will always have a special place in my heart. Throughout our four years together, I gained confidence as a marketer, writer, and leader. I attribute this to the freedom and trust Fen and Edwin provided me.
IGTV
Do you remember the launch of IGTV in 2018? Many marketers viewed video content on social media with a skeptical lens during that time. How far we’ve come since then! The following pieces of content are examples of work created before IG Reels or TikTok. Given the differing upload requirements, you’ll notice a different format and style in these examples. I hope you enjoy the following work.
Social Media Photography
The photography style for Mad Dumplings has changed several times throughout the years. After much experimentation, we learned that Mad Dumplings’ eaters enjoyed a blend of in-the-kitchen type photographs, foodporn, lifestyle, and vibrant flat lays. Below is a sampling of this work.
Public Relations
When Mad Dumplings launched in 2016, our main focus was to generate brand awareness throughout Southern California. We did this through partnerships with local influencers and media members. Once Mad Dumplings became a recognizable name within the community, we shifted our focus towards highlighting the lifestyle surrounding the Mad Dumplings’ customers.
Below are a few features that were secured during our partnership.
